The Verte Opportunity Fund is managed by PI Analytics, LLC, an investment adviser pursuant to an Investment Management Agreement. PI Analytics investment advisory team is led by Dr. Leonard Mills, who has over 30 years of experience and proven success in the asset selection and portfolio management.
Dr. Mills’ prior experience includes senior level positions at the Federal Reserve Bank, Fannie Mae, Wells Fargo Bank, and as an adjunct professor. He earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Hampden-Sydney College and a doctoral in Economics from Tulane University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and holds the Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF).
Dr. Mills spent over 15 years as Head of Portfolio Analytics and Research for Fannie Mae’s direct portfolio which peaked at over $1.5 trillion in assets under management. Dr. Mills and his team of 150 quantitative analysts were responsible for all the proprietary analytics and research underlying all asset selections and portfolio management strategies for the entire portfolio. After leaving Fannie Mae, he was a Principal at Unison Investment Management that managed two funds.
Len founded PI Analytics Investment Adviser in 2016 specializing in alternative, hard-to-value assets. Among accounts managed are its first fund, Verte Capital in 2015, to invest in the emerging cannabis industry. He founded the Verte Opportunity in 2019 to invest in and develop emerging companies impacting Opportunity Zones.
Dr. Deborah Hemingway is an executive in the medical technology industry bringing more than 20 years of entrepreneurial, scientific, and investing experience in business formation, technology commercialization, startup leadership, and medical device entrepreneurship. Prior to joining PI Analytics, she was an active angel investor, venture partner, serial entrepreneur, philanthropist, and board member. She leads in the strategic development of PI Analytics as an Investment Adviser and in fund-raising for the Verte Funds.
Deborah is a mentor in the FedTech accelerator and sits on the advisory boards of a number of biotech companies in the Mid-Atlantic region, including VC-backed Pathotrak, Relavo, Playwell, and Aloe Therapeutics. She is also a venture partner at a venture fund in Baltimore, Maryland and serves on a number of medtech committees. She was also recognized as the UMD Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship 2019 Angel Investor of the Year.
Dr. Hemingway earned a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of Maryland, College Park after completing dual bachelor’s degrees at Ohio University.
Paul Saint-Pierre’s professional experience features consistent themes of alternative investment strategies, including: i) strategic advisory services, ii) investment management, operations, compliance, securities placement, and secondary-market transactions of alternative investment funds, and iii) active principal in the design, creation and investment management of institutional-quality, SEC-registered investment companies and business development companies and their subsequent launch through retail, registered investment advisor, and mass-affluent investor channels.
He has held senior executive positions that include: Chief Financial Officer of investment companies, business development companies and a division of a corporate homebuilder; registered representative of registered investment advisors that manage alternative investment strategies; investment banker for real estate-related businesses; US REIT sector investment analyst; registered principal of broker-dealer firm that facilitated secondary-market transactions of securities issued by private equity real estate funds; portfolio manager and research director of a global real estate securities investment program; and principal advisor to institutional investors regarding their real estate investment strategies. He attended University of California, (Berkeley) Graduate School of Business where he earned a Masters degree in Business Administration,
Dr. Jonathan Pearl is a General Surgeon and Associate Professor at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Pearl is also a founder of Surgical Vision Systems (SVS) and inventor of the SVS Thermal Endoscope, the SVS Laser Enhanced Thermography device, the SVS non-contact ultrasound scanner, and the SVS Active Wound Dressing for burns. He is also the Chief of General Surgery at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. In his role as Venture Partner, Jonathan specializes in fund raising, deal flow and due diligence in medical devices, life sciences, and other industry verticals.
Dr. Pearl has an BS degree from University of Michigan and an MD from Wayne State University, and is a 13-year decorated veteran of the United States Navy.
Mika Standard oversees the strategic coordination and outreach to various collaborators of the Verte funds including community, government, and philanthropic organizations. She also contributes to the due-diligence and fund-raising for the Verte funds. Mika’s experience includes senior director positions at the Children’s National Hospital Foundation, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
Ms. Standard earned her BSBA in Management with a double minor in Art History and Studio Art from Bucknell University. Ms. Standard also has a background in high-net-worth wealth management (Series 7 and 66) with UBS and PaineWebber Financial Services. She is designated as a Certified Fund Raising Executive and is a Fellow in Charitable Estate Planning.
William Mills is a seasoned analytics and technology professional in various industries including music, sales and finance. He holds a B.S. in Music Engineering/Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami.
In 2010 William founded Verte Music, a software platform that matched content creators looking for music scoring with a privately-curated production library. In addition, he worked with world renowned musical artists in various capacities.
William joined PI Analytics in 2015 and currently leads the technology at PI Analytics.
Natalie Elder is a seasoned marketing professional specializing in content creation and management, client relations, non-profit fundraising campaigns and strategy, and data analysis. Natalie received a B.A. degree in professional writing. In her previous experience, Natalie has worked with industry-leading clients like AARP Foundation, The Mental Health Association of Frederick County, Massachusetts General Hospital, AOPA and more.
Natalie has experience in investment partnership with a focus on start-up opportunities, state-issued grant application and acquisition, and budgeting.
